Our senses shape how we perceive the world around us. Hearing, seeing, touching, smelling, tasting. The sensory organs - the children of our vital organs - go out into the world and bring information back to our body. We then transform that sensory information into motor action.
In this class we will use a mix of Western anatomy and Chinese medicine as we travel through our senses, learning how they develop, and playing with how they deepen our relationship to the inner and outer world.
True-ish story: Aristotle and Plato were having a debate one day. Aristotle asked Plato which of our senses he thought was the most powerful. Plato said "Sight, because it goes the furthest, and is connected to visions and dreams." Aristotle said, "Cool. But I think it is touch because touch is the most sensitive. And that is powerful."
The world has clearly gone in Plato's direction, but we need the integration of all our senses to best attune to the world.
Question for you to contemplate: What is the sense that you connect most deeply to?
Come and join me for a beautiful exploration.
